City of Victoria Sketching Tour

  • Tai Kwun 10 Hollywood Road Central, Hong Kong Island Hong Kong SAR China (map)

During the British colonial period, Hong Kong’s capital, Victoria, was divided into four “rings”: Sai Wan (including Kennedy Town, Shek Tong Tsui and Sai Ying Pun), Sheung Wan, Central and Ha Wan (now Wan Chai and Causeway Bay). Today, these areas are the city’s political, financial and commercial centre.

Frank Tang is one of the participated artists of INK CITY exhibition at Tai Kwun Contemporary. In his series of paintings exploring monuments, Frank furthers his scrutiny of the city’s urban landscape along with the fascinating history of the statues and memorials that checker Hong Kong, thus carefully charting and uncovering the city’s layered past.

In this “City of Victoria Sketching Tour”, Frank Tang will lead participants to travel through Ha Wan (Victoria Park and Causeway Bay) or Central (Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Park) in order to objectively understand these two places both from urban observations and from provided information. While wandering through the areas, Frank Tang will share his method of sketching with participants and describe the landscapes, sounds and personal feelings.
