Ahmed's work takes inspiration from traditional Persian and Mughal manuscripts and classical Japanese painting, creating imaginary worlds and fantastical creatures which draw from her personal experiences. This fusion of different cultural traditions and art forms reflects the interiors and collections of Leighton House, making the museum uniquely placed to host an exhibition of Ahmed's work.
Alongside existing work, a new commissioned piece inspired by Leighton House and its rich interiors, will be on display. The exhibition also features the museum's first immersive AR (augmented reality) experience, with artworks brought to life through digital animation.
The exhibition will be the first contemporary show in the newly designed drawings gallery - located in the museum's modern wing - and to mark the occasion, Ahmed will paint mini murals of her fantastical creatures on the gallery walls, inviting visitors to step into her world.
