Indian Ideal of Beauty
The Storied Past of Hyderabad
Sabah: Leaves from an Album
Humayun the Uneasy Heir
Cover. Out of two contrasting ideals-the mother and the sensuous woman-Indian artists created a new ideal of feminine beauty. In the Indian conception the beautiful woman was, of cause, fair in form and face: her body was soft and warm, her skin fine, her eyes bright, her bosom hard, full and high, her voice low and musical. Bet mere physical loveliness was not enough. The soul had to be reflected through every pore. The beautiful woman was also marked by an aura of serenity; her entire being exuded grace, light and joy. Beauty of body or soul was nothing by itself.
