The Ramayana
The T'ang dynasty has been called the Augustan Age of Chinese art and literature. One of its best-known art forms is the funerary figurine, or ming ch'i, in the best of which the Chinese potter reached a high development, both technically and aesthetically. This figurine of a scholar is 27 inches tall. Its unusually large size and quality denote that the grave in which it was buried belonged to a wealthy individual who might also have been of the Imperial clan. From the Warren King Collection, of Hongkong.
