A work atypical 0f most seventeenth-century Iranian art is Muhammad Zaman's The Return from the Flight into Egypt, based on an engraving by the Flemish master Lucas Vosterman after Peter Paul Rubens' painting of the same name. Zaman ordinarily worked for his Muslim patrons at the imperial court of Isfahan, but that so noted an artist could be commissioned to paint on a New Testament theme indicates the power and influence of Isfahan's Armenian Christian community.
