A Ching dynasty bamboo carving of Two Old Men Smoking Pipes (Height: 21.6 cm.) from The Walter Edmund Lutz Bamboo Collection, the Denver Art Museum, was among the superb examples of bamboo carving exhibited in Hongkong from October to January this year. Although paintings, calligraphy and literary pieces have extolled the merits of the bamboo, the study of bamboo carving itself has been neglected. This issue features some of the outstanding pieces.
