Cover. Pottery of the Indo-Pakistani subcontinent has often ignored in favor of other Asian ceramics. Archaeological work has, however, yielded much knowledge about the technical skill and artistic gifts of the potter of India (and Pakistan) from pre-Mohenjo-daro Harappan times. The cover photo, by Darshan Lall, shows a 19th-century jar with handle (from the collection of the National Museum, New Delhi), typical of the genre-decorated blue and whites of north India.
