Shandong province has been the origin of many important art styles and traditions throughout the course of Chinese history. In addition to writing his own paper, Professor Wu Hung of the University of Chicago was instrumental in organizing and co-ordinating this series of essays, which present new ideas relating to some exciting excavations in recent years, and which are published here for the first time.
