Cover. T’sui po’s “A Hare and Two Magpies”, a classic in the genre of Chinese bird painting, is analyzed in this issue by Tseng Yu of the National Palace Museum, who urges viewers – for a more profound appreciation of the Sung dynasty painting – to start from left bottom (just below the spot where the hare is shown in detail on the cover) and like a Taoist “follow the cycle and observe the changes,” The article also points out differences in approach between Western and Chinese artistic attitudes, chiefly using a painting of a hare by Albrecht Durer.
