VOLUME 8 - NUMBER 5
Korean Chests
Silent Glory of Ayutthaya
Balinese Mass Cremation
Pained Bricks of Wei & Tsin
History: the Pasig River
Cover. In the west, Antique Korean chests are the latest in collectors’ items. Asiaphiles have, of course, long been treasuring their 200 (or more) year-old Yi dynasty (1392-1910) chests of pine, elm, paulownia, persimmon, pear tree, mountain ash and limewood. Apart from the dignified simplicity of the woodwork of these chests, the metalcraft so skillfully applied on their hinges and locks by Yi dynasty artisans also make them more valuable, like the turtle on the cover.
