The singa, lion, is a favorite Hinduistic figure. The Toba Batak of Sumatra make a stylized lion-head that at first glance looks like a helmeted, medieval European. This winged singa, sometimes identified as a garuda with a lion head, comes from Bali, and bears the brilliant colors characteristic of that island-province. Courtesy, Central Museum, Djakarta.
