Pakistan’s Quaid-i-Azam
The modulated crackle lines on the glaze of this Hsiu-nei-Ssu kuan were vase, which follow the contour of the object – large at the widest areas, tightly-knit at the narrowest – epitomizes the distinctive beauty of the Southern Sung’s family of kuan wares. Kuan wares, known as the finest and definitely the rarest of the celadons of southeast China, were the most challenging porcelains to produce, the potters being faced with the problem of controlling the appearance of crackle lines according to the desired design as well as insuring that the object came out of the kiln in technically perfect color and shape. This piece is from the National Palace Museum Collection, Taipeh, Taiwan, China.
