VOLUME 42 - NUMBER 7

The cover image for this issue is a large painting on silk by Kim Eunho, one of the last court painters of Korea’s Joseon dynasty, in the Asian art collection of the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, University of Florida. As of March 2012, the entire collection will have a permanent home in the new David A. Cofrin Asian Art Wing, thanks to the generosity of the museum’s founding donors, David A. and Mary Ann Harn Cofrin. In preparation for the move, each work in the collection was documented and photographed, revealing some hidden treasures, as well as fresh perspectives on old favourites, as Cofrin Curator of Asian Art Jason Steuber tells us in our interview.

A series of articles by Unsok Song and Hyonjeong Kim Han, Shawn Eichman, Nick Pearce, Ling-en Lu, Laura W. Allen and Sona Datta introduces recent research on selected works of Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Indian art within the collection.

Olaf Czaja reviews two recent books on Himalayan art. We revisit the Abegg-Stiftung Foundation following its reopening, and take a look around the soon-to-be-completed Central Asian Museum Leh. We also preview the upcoming Fine Art Asia fair in Hong Kong. Finally, Deborah Klimburg-Salter and Cheryl Benard comment on endeavours to conserve the unique cultural heritage of Afghanistan.
