SEP 2003
VOLUME 34 - NUMBER 7
Hidden treasures are revealed in the main features of this issue. Stephen Little throws the spotlight on a Korean gilt-bronze sculpture of Kshitigrabha, soon to go on show at the Asain Art Museum of San Francisco, and on a number of previously unpublished Japanese paintings at The Art Institue of Chicago; Robert Clark discusses an unusual set of 84 mahasiddha portraits specially commissioned in the 1920s for an important Tibetan official, and still held by his descendants today. Gardens past and present are also addressed here: Anita Chung presents her views on the issue of pictorial fidelity in Chinese garden paintings, while collector and landscape designer Terry Welch introduces the Japanese-inspired garden he created new Seattle.
As the fall season kicks off, we preview shows and fairs in Paris and New York and look back on events of the summer.
